Week Thirty One

So unfortunately I have found myself a little behind on my weekly blogs. I now have a mission this week to write three posts to bring myself back on track. If you have read some of my other posts before you will know that this does happen but it is the writing of posts that beats me and thankfully not my sewing. This I am up to date! whoop!. So knowing I am on track with my challenges is a good feeling. The reasons for my lateness is because I went on holiday. I am a lover of the snow and ski most years so have not been on a summery holiday for, I think about 10 years so it was very special. My mum and dad invited me and my boyfriend and my sister becky and her boyfriend to a week in Lake Garda. I jumped at the chance and it was awesome. I am now back and its crunch time! I made this dress the week before I went and then made another holiday dress just before so this is now a three week ago creation. But don't fear for it is now here to hopefully be admired. Well I admire it. hehe!

What a summery treat. I have combined a couple of patterns and added a few of my own buttons. I don't usually wear or buy strappy dresses so it was fun to make one so I could attach the straps in the just the right place.

Here are just a couple of shots from the holiday. We stayed in a really beautiful spot in the middle of nowhere on top of the hills with the most amazing view straight down onto Lake Garda. The photo above is of the boys juggling with the lake behind.

The patters I used was the Elisalex dress pattern from ByHandLondon, which I have used three times now and totally love it. From this I used the skirt parts and for the bodice I chose the bra top from McCalls M6331. I thought with the fabric i chose these would be good pieces to put together. Almost quite vintage looking.

This amazing fabric I got from John Lewis. I went to buy some cross stitch supplies for my holiday and came out with this gem of a print. It was pricy at £17 per metre and I used one and a half.

This is the really fun button/badge kit I got quite a while ago now at Waterstones. I have made quite a few so far and some for other dresses. I thought they would be great to use on this dress to add a little fun to the front. I especially like the birdie one at the top. Super fun. I picked up from home on Friday a birthday present from some family friends and it is a really cool Cath Kidston version. Can't wait to get stuck into the fun fabrics it comes with.
I hope you like the dress. Let me know what you think.

  1. Love the dress! The holiday pictures look great too. The only sewing I mnaged to do this weekend was a mock up for a top, need to do some proper fabric shopping next.
