Week twenty seven's inspiration came from Cloth magazine. A new magazine to me that I picked up at a local fabric store called Ray Stitch on Essex Road. I came across this shop when looking for sewing classes and they do a lot in all sots of crafts including quilting and dressmaking. I am going to sign up very soon I think.
I had to stop myself from buying any fabric on this particular trip as I didn't have a project in mind and I always find this can be very dangerous. Fun but dangerous. So I got a magazine instead and I also picked up an awesome pattern. So awesome that it will be written about soon.
The magazine is full of many different ideas for creations and lots of articles about crafty designers so was very exciting to flick through and gain some inspiration for my own projects. One idea jumped out at me from the magazine and I instantly wanted to get home and do it. So I did and here is what I made.
The project was to create a 'Book Clutch'. As someone who very rarely reads and doesn't get a lot of enjoyment from it, this seemed like the greatest thing ever to do with a book so I gave it a go. I did however make a few alterations due to a lack of tools but pretty happy with the finished creation.
Here is the lady that created this wonderful clutch design. Her name is Erica Peppers and a link to her blog and this particular project is attached above. I shall definitely be checking out her creations on a regular basis from now on.
When back home a few weeks ago I popped into one of my favourite shops in Skipton called Emma's Apothecary. My sister wrote a really fun blog post about the shop here at theshutterbugblog It's an amazing little place that sells cake shaped bath bombs, herbal remedies and amazing jewellery. They also sell a lot of homeware and some crafty goodies including these amazing fat quarters that I picked up for £6. I thought they would be great for this project.
This adorable blue fabric I received just recently with my crafty creatives box 10. I thought it was the perfect contrast for the book clutch. Thank you again to crafty creatives for the exciting gems in this months box.
And here is my crafty book clutch. Doesn't it look quite sweet. So as I said earlier I changed the design quite a bit from the instructions in the magazine, mainly because I realised I didn't have a craft knife to cut the pages out so couldn't really make any room inside to put things. So instead I thought why not make a wallet, so that the contents inside would stay flush against the book. I think it worked quite well. Although I am itching to get a craft knife and give it another go very soon.
I attached two badges, created by myself using my badge making kit and then wrapped this lovely gold thread I got from John Lewis to create a fastener. It's quite fun to twizzle it around to open whats inside.
Inside, using the contrasting fabric from crafty creatives I made little pockets for my cards and cash.
This was probably my favourite creation from the past few weeks. I think from the whole build up of finding the project in the magazine and then getting excited about getting home to try it and the glueing and sticking and wrapping. It was nice to do something away from the sewing machine and really get my hands dirty. I recommend everyone follows the link to lovely Erica's blog and give it a go. Happy sticking!!!
