Week Twenty One

For this week I decided to revisit a pattern I have used a couple of times before and really enjoyed making them. It's a burda pattern I picked up from John Lewis. The pattern contains four separates to create including a dress, skirt, peplum top and jacket. I really want to practice more with making jackets, which is why I got the pattern originally but the dress has turned out so well and is definitely my favourite bit. I will have to attempt the jacket soon though.

This is the first dress I created using this pattern. The fabric is really light and hangs really nicely. For the second try I wanted to use a heavier cotton. A very similar fabric to the one below.

This is a skirt made from the same pattern and with a heavier cotton, I think the pleats fold really nicely and hold their shape. However the skirt above, I made the pleats wrong so was definitely determined to get them right this time.

This is the amazingly beautiful fabric I picked up from my local fabric shop. It was a littler more expensive than the fabric I usually buy at £9.99 per metre, which isn't really a huge amount but was a splurge for me. I used about one and a half metres. So considering I already had the pattern a £15 dress is pretty good.

Just a little side track to let you all know it was my birthday last week. I am now 26!! late 20s!! crazy. I had a lovely time, my boyfriend surprised me with tickets to see singing in the rain at the Palace Theatre. It is probably one of my favorite films so that was incredible. My parents got me this amazing gem below. It's a dressmakers dummy. I have wanted one for a while but was also a total surprise. It has a really pretty pattern, which is super fun. Very excited now to hopefully create some of my own patterns. Will probably have to watch a few youtube videos first. Hehe!!
Thank you mummy and daddy!

So now I have this amazing dummy I thought I would show you this weeks creation on it.

You can really see here the pleats. I love that because the fabric is a little heavier they really hold shape and shape the hip area quite well.

Thank you for reading and let me know what you think.

  1. The pattern design is absolutely stunning!! The first picture of the dark dress really suits you. Definitely one I'd like to try although that means I'd need to dig out and dust off my sewing machine. Kirsty
